Portman Dental Care is the largest privately focused dental group in the UK, having grown to 160 practices, with ambitious plans for continued growth. The Central Support Office in Cheltenham supports its group of Clinicians and support colleagues across multiple UK sites to deliver a fantastic healthcare service.

As a result of restructuring and continued growth, they are looking to appoint a Financial Controller. Reporting to the Finance Director for UK&I, you will be leading a team of c. 20 people, made up of Management Accounting, Purchase Ledger, and Financial Reporting.

Flexible working/work from home is in place, it is anticipated that you will come to the office a day or two per week as necessary to fulfill your duties.

Key Responsibilities:
• Responsible for the monthly management accounts process to the point where reports can be run and distributed to finance business partners for review
• Managing the month-end process once the financials have been reviewed and signed off through to close of accounts and handover to the FP&A team for reporting
• Responsible for the balance sheet including review and output, resolve issues picked up in the reconciliations, and managing the risks and opportunities on the balance sheet through the course of the financial year
• responsible for delivery of statutory accounts submissions through the course of the year, for the Menthe Group overall and Portman in the UK&I for main and subsidiary entities
• Own the audit process for the Menthe Group, run to plan and execute audit work – remote and onsite
• Responsible for the consolidation of the Menthe Group accounts, working with internal and external accounting teams as required to achieve this
• Responsible for the technical accounting of the UK&I entity, providing advice as to implications of commercial decisions on accounts
• Responsible for supporting other Menthe Group entities in their technical accounting and control environment where local expertise does not exist
• Manage the transactional teams (currently purchase ledger, cash, and banking), ensuring their processes fit into the overall control framework and enable a smooth management accounts cycle whilst providing first-class support to dental practices
• Advise and help to build further capability within the transactional finance teams, to cope with cash and currency management
• Own and manage the delivery of corporate tax and VAT work for the UK&I through the management of internal and external resource
• Lead the team through a period of change as systems, processes, and ways of working are upgraded to be fit for the future through a digital transformation project

What we’re looking for:
• Qualified Accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) with considerable post-qualified experience, ideally in a multi-national organisation or multi-site business.
• Proven ability to deliver monthly financial reporting suite
• Organised, hands-on, with a can-do attitude
• Superb team leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
• Results-driven with the ability to deliver to tight deadlines in a fast-paced business
• Strong IT skills; especially in Excel
